VALSOLDA
In the eastern branch of the Ceresio, the one extending in an arc towards the Lario, before the waves of the lake spread out on the gravels of Porlezza, there is a large wooded land overlooking which, falling from the moth-eaten limestone mountains, gently slopes down towards the lake; handfuls of red roofs scattered in clusters ordered to climb, dappled by gardens of Mediterranean essences sewn by mule tracks, stain the verdant back divided into arms by the furrows of the streams; behind, climbing towards the rocky crown that closes off the cold northern winds, rippled forests interwoven with a fine embroidery of silent paths, parading through valleys and ridges, between pinnacles and walls that emerge nervously from the mantle of woods right up to the open peaks.
Homeland of Antonio Fogazzaro's mother, it was chosen by the writer to set his masterpiece "Piccolo mondo antico".
